NBC- The Rock
27th August 2010
NBC Bird and Pest solutions are delighted to have been appointed to manage Bird and Pest control at ‘The Rock’ Shopping centre in Bury.
The scheme by developer, Hammerson, has transformed the town centre, creating three new department stores, 60 shops a cinema, bowling alley and 400 flats. Anchored by Marks and Spencer and Debenhams the development is estimated to have created 500 new jobs.
NBC Bird and Pest Solutions Area Manager, Brian Richards, has installed an integrated package of pest control measures which specifically avoid the use of toxic poisons. This approach ensures non target species are not at risk whilst achieving the objective of keeping the site rat and mouse free.
This environmentally responsible approach continues through to the management of Pest Birds such as Pigeons, and Gulls. These birds may not only be a nuisance but can also can be a danger to staff and the public, particularly during the nesting season when they can nest on buildings and rooftop plant machinery. Pigeon nesting on air conditioning units are a particular health hazard. Spores in the Pigeon guano can be drawn into the air conditioning units and circulated within the building.
NBC Bird and Pest Solutions has taken a proactive approach to problem bird control to prevent such situations arising in the first place. Using a combination of Falcons and Hawks any potential ‘resident’ is encouraged to move elsewhere. These Falcons and Hawks are not trained to kill but present a threat to the Pigeon and Gull population which is usually sufficient enough to make themselves scarce.
This prestigious, long term bird and pest control contract provides a one stop shop for The Rocks Facilities Management team. There are few companies, if any other than NBC Bird and Pest Solutions, who can effectively deal with Bird and Pest problems without subcontracting some or all to third parties.
