Bird Control

Bird Proofing

While falconry and audio systems are highly effective in the initial dispersal of the ‘pest’ bird population, bird proofing offers a long-term solution. When installed correctly, bird proofing is 100% effective for many years.

Our range of bird proofing systems includes netting, spikes and wires to prevent birds accessing specific buildings or areas. For larger areas, even the most complex roofs can be proofed with bird netting to completely exclude birds. Naturally, the areas of a building vulnerable to nesting and roosting birds are often difficult to reach. At NBC we have specially trained rope-access teams, who can reach even the most inaccessible areas and avoid the use of scaffolding.

We also employ a bird deterrent system, AVISHOCK, which offers a visually discrete solution to deter birds from landing and nesting. AVISHOCK can be applied to a wide range of surfaces, including signage, using a system of track connectors and wires that are virtually invisible.

Work is carried out by our specialist installation team and as we are an accredited 'safe contractor' you are assured a safe and professional job. Our years of experience and knowledge of bird behaviour ensures the result will be an installation that’s sympathetic to the appearance of your building whilst maintaining an effective barrier against birds.

Typical Applications

Unwelcome visitors
When an apartment complex near Whitby harbour had a pigeon infestation, causing slip hazards and other health and safety risks, NBC knew just how to tackle the unwelcome residents.

With the birds roosting and nesting on exposed gas pipes, heating vents and the lighting system over the walkways, the complicated problem required a bespoke bird proofing system. NBC’s solution included a range of strategically placed bird nets and spiking, excluding the pigeons from access.

First Class Solution
Students may have a reputation for being messy but that was nothing in comparison to the pigeon poo problem being experienced by the Hugh Christie Technology College, Tonbridge, Kent. Roosting pigeons in the reception area were creating an awful mess, meaning the caretaker having to clean up virtually everyday.

NBC Bird and Pest Solutions, the UK leader in bird control, designed and installed a canopy of bird netting at the entrance that has successfully prevented the pigeons perching at the school’s reception area.

Food for thought
When a large group of starlings made their home in a 25m high tower at Grampian Country Foods’ processing plant in Aberdeenshire, they created not just a mess but a serious hygiene hazard.

A bird netting system was developed and deployed by NBC’s specialist rope access team providing a cost effective solution which soon had the starlings winging their way off site.

Picture perfect
The McManus Gallery in Dundee, Scotland, a Grade 1 Listed building, was being plagued by roosting feral pigeons, whose guano had contributed to the damage of onsite construction materials being used for renovation
With our expertise and experience, NBC Bird and Pest Solutions were the natural choice to design and install a bird proofing solution which prevented the pigeons roosting, without detracting from the appearance of the gallery. The design used a complex combination of nets, spikes and bird wire to protect the critical features of the historic building.

Big problem
Schlumberger's 4000 square metre industrial unit in Dyce, Aberdeen, had become a seasonal nesting site for thousands of birds looking to set up home. As well as causing extensive damage to the property, the birds posed a health and safety hazard from associated mess and aggressive behaviour
In one of the largest single bird proofing projects in Scotland, a netting system was designed and installed to cover the entire building and prevent birds roosting.
