Before any work of this type is undertaken as a method of bird control, NBC Bird and Pest Solutions will complete a full auditable assessment to establish whether natural alternatives can be used. Trapping birds, nest removal or oiling of eggs to prevent birds from hatching are options available as bird management solutions, and should they be appropriate, clients can be confident that when using NBC Bird and Pest Solutions, work will be carried out sympathetically and humanely.
Typical Applications
Problem: A population of pigeons that have been causing a messy problem at a warehouse Swale Building Supplies (SBS) in Whiteway Road, Queenborough, for several months. Chris Yates, Company Director of Swales said: "We have been faced with pigeons and mess every day often putting our hands in it on the handrail of the stairs."
Solution: NBC Bird and Pest Solutions, the UK leader in Bird Control, came to the rescue and used birds of prey - two harris hawks and a peregrine falcon - which were flown around buildings where the wild birds had settled and become a nuisance. The birds are brought in every day for five days. After that they are brought back once a week and imitation hawks are placed in the building to make pigeons think the birds have moved in.
Problem: NBC Bird and Pest Solutions has been called in to assist one of the world's leading engineering companies, ABB. Robin Mason, Maintenance Team Leader of ABB's Gloucester branch said: 'We had a terrible gull problem, with them eating roof fabric, dive bombing staff and generally being aggressive.'
Solution: Robin said: 'Since NBC started the falconry programme on site I have seen a significant difference in the number of gulls that used to populate outside ABB. The flock has decreased by 50% and the remaining gulls are less aggressive.'
ABB was also impressed by NBC's green credentials. Robin said: 'I chose NBC Bird and Pest Solutions to supply our bird control services because they use a natural and humane way to combat bird problems.' Robin also mentioned that he and everyone at ABB and are, 'Very pleased with the work NBC has carried out.'
Problem: The nests containing about 100 seagulls were discovered when work began on the re-roofing of a 40,000sq ft unit in Gemini Business Park that had been damaged in a fire last December.
Solution: Graham Rees, Area Manager of NBC Bird and Pest Solutions' Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton branch, was called into Gemini Business Park, Kidderminster, along with his Harris hawk and peregrine falcon, to scare away seagulls that are nesting on a unit at the site. Graham said: "Just the presence of the birds of prey keeps the seagulls away."
Graham explained it was the most humane and environmentally friendly method of dealing with a bird problem and added that it also led to a permanent solution. He said after four years the business park would be "completely gull free". NBC provide a whole host of bird and pest management services.
Problem: Simon Collins, Area Manager of Norwich and Ipswich branch of NBC Bird and Pest Solutions' has quoted Norwich Union happy, after promising to rid their pigeon problem that has been plaguing their offices in the city centre of Norwich.
Solution: Bird Controller Grant Slater and his bird Arnie have caused quite the stir, attracting the attention of passers-by. Also local radio station, Broadland 102 were so intrigued that they put together a radio interview with Grant to learn more about how the ancient art of falconry is used to deter pests such as feral pigeons. The programme has succesfully reduced the bird problem.
Problem: Dacorum Borough Council has drafted in the services of NBC Bird and Pest Solutions, as an answer to their pigeon problem. The council have previously spent thousands of pounds each year removing pigeon droppings and feel this environmentally-friendly method of falconry will finally rid the town of it's bird problem.
Solution: NBC Bird and Pest Solutions' two year old Harris Hawk named Habana has been busy soaring above Hemel Hempstead town centre to scare pigeons away from shopping streets.A spokesmen from Docorum Borough Council said: "The pigeons will learn this is Harbana's spot not theirs"
Problem: For the past two years, residents living in Whitworth Place, Oxford have been at their wits' end because the pigeons continually fouled their balconies and clothes on their washing lines. 'There were at least 30 pigeons at a time and it was a bit like that Hitchcock film The Birds - the whole roof was covered' said resident John Johnstone.
Solution: Oxford Council called on NBC Bird and Pest Solution who put together a population control programme that included using Harris hawks to deter the feral pigeons. The Mayor of Oxford Susanna Pressel said the programme was so successful that she would advise hawking as a bird control method for other areas in Oxford.
