Pest of the Month - Crows
The crow family includes the Rook, Carrion and Hooded Crows, Jackdaw, Raven, Magpie and Jay, all of which can cause damage to rural and urban environments all year round.
They can damage emerging and pre- harvest cereals and damage other crops such as potatoes and they may also remove livestock feed. The most notorious damage can be to lambs by Ravens and Crows. However, this often happens after the lamb is dead or seriously ill. Jackdaws will nest/roost in large numbers in city buildings, causing damage by contamination from droppings and blocked chimney with a resulting potential fire hazard.
