Bird Proofing in Blaenau
The victorian open shopping arcade in the picturesque town of Abertillery, South Wales had become a favourite nesting place for the local pigeon population bringing with them unsightly and unhealthy bird droppings.
Following a referral from a neighbouring council, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council called in John Dowling, South Wales Area Manager for NBC Bird & Pest Control to resolve the situation.
The first stage of the work was to remove the guano and sanitise the affected areas. Once all the areas had been thoroughly cleaned, a system of bird proofing, involving netting and bird spikes was installed to prevent the birds from returning to the arcade. A falconry response programme was then carried out to deter the pigeons from returning to the site.
Once again residents and visitors to Abertillery can shop in a pleasant and bird free centre.
