Red Deer Control
20,000 trees were planted at Biffa Landfill Site, Cannock as part of the reservation programme to restore a section of the site into woodland and parkland. Unfortunately a neighbouring population of red deer had other i-deers for the trees according to Chris Blakenham, the Site Manager.
Chris said; "The Deers were stripping the bark and nibbling at the saplings, killing the trees before they had a chance to grow." Concerned for the reservation Chris employed Graham Rees from NBC, who was currently the supplier of their bird and pest control services.
Chis added "Graham successfully deterred the deer problem by having someone on foot patrol, aswell as using dogs. Graham has also put lion excrement down- as this is proven to scare deer away, as they believe there is a predator in the area."
