Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions about the franchise, please take the time to read through them as they should answer many of the questions you may have at this stage.

How do I apply?

What is the recruitment process?

We will consider your application and if your ideal territory is available and you match the criteria we look for we will invite you to come in for an informal discussion, this will enable us to find out more about you and give you the opportunity to learn more about NBC - there is no hard sell. If, after a few days consideration, both parties wish to proceed you will receive formal details of the franchise offer and territory.

How long will it take to start trading from the time I sign the franchise agreement?

This really depends on your individual situation. The duration of the training programme is four weeks and as our franchisees work from home you can be fully operational quickly.

Where will I run the business from?

All our franchisees operate from a home office thus keeping your overheads low.

Training

What will the training consist of and how long will it last?

The training program is a comprehensive 4 week plan which covers all areas of the business. You will learn all aspects of falconry, bird care and handling which will lead to an industry recognised qualification. Also, all our technicians are British Pest Control Association qualified. There is instruction covering high access work and bird proofing. Finally, a dedicated team will take you through all other aspects of the business including marketing, health & safety, IT and financials.

Marketing

How do you manage the national marketing fund and what is the cost?

All our franchisees pay 2.5% of sales towards the national marketing levy which is used to promote NBC on a national basis via such mediums as our website and online promotion.

Can I do my own marketing?

Yes, you are required to carry out marketing activity within your own territory, there is support available from head office to assist you with this.

Territory

What territories are available?

Please contact us regarding available areas as an existing NBC franchisee may be covering an area temporarily until is it occupied or there maybe a re-sale opportunity available.

How will I receive nationally generated leads?

We work on a postcode system, all leads received by head office in your area will be passed directly to you via our automatic text messaging system.

How long is a franchise agreement and can I renew it?

A franchise is offered on a five year term, this can be renewed if both parties are in agreement at the end of the term and the contract terms have been maintained. The fee is payable initially and is non-recurring.

Financial

Where can I obtain specialist legal/financial advice regarding franchising?

There is a great deal of useful information on the British Franchise Association website www.thebfa.org and a list of affiliated professional advisors.

What are the costs involved in opening a NBC franchise?

The maximum investment required is £37,650, this figure includes the franchise fee, working capital of £10,000, comprehensive training programme, falconry & pest control equipment, stationery and marketing material, uniform and office equipment requirements.

What sort of return can I expect on my investment?

We will provide you with an illustration of projected trading figures, based on actual trading performance, as part of the franchise prospectus. These are provided only as a guide and actual figures will depend on your commitment and hard work.

Support

What ongoing support will I be provided with once my franchise is operating?

There is a dedicated team at head office on hand to assist and support you. Quarterly training days are organised to help you keep up to date with industry and business developments. We also have various forums where you can keep in touch with our other franchisees and access documents and other useful information 24hrs a day. Our franchisees are also at the end of the phone should you need any advice on a particular matter.

Will I need any staff?

Not initially, unless you are taking on an existing business or contract. As your business expands you may find it is necessary to employ staff.

Bird

Do I need any previous experience with birds of prey?

No experience is necessary as full training will be given in all aspects of bird care, handling and flying leading to a recognised qualification.

Do I need a large garden to house the birds?

No, the birds can be housed in a relatively small area, be it urban or rural. You will need access to an open space in order to exercise the birds.

Other

Are NBC a member of the British Franchise Association?

Yes, NBC is proud to be a fully accredited member of the BFA. The BFA is the voluntary self regulating governing body promoting ethical franchising. As a member we have chosen to be vetted against a strict code of business practice.

What are the working hours?

Normal working hours are 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday, however franchisees may choose to operate outside of these times on occasion.
